Thanksgiving for cheap, yo

November 19, 2011

You know you’ve been on a money fast when the idea of buying a turkey strikes fear into your heart. It’s not going to be cheap and really, who wants to buy cheap dead birds? Not I. So I will suck it up and take in my $5 off $50 coupon and then buy an expensive bird and some other random stuff that is on sale and that I have a coupon for so hopefully I’ll spend closer to $35 for my feast. We have some good friends coming over and we can always count on them to bring some treats.

My dear cousin-in-law (because my husband is cousin’s with her husband) calls this simple living. I kinda like it. We open the windows more. I light a match rather than run the fan in the bathroom (that’s gotta save at least some change). I’ve donated two bags of baby items and the last time I checked out of Publix, I was $5 over because the cashier asked if I would like to feed the poor. Well of course I’d like to feed the poor so I had become a ‘gold leaf’ or whatever by donating $5  but I got a reusable bag so that was nifty.

Thursday money spent: $55 at Publix, saved $50 and got everything for Thanksgiving aside from the turkey, I’m going back for Hank tomorrow.

Thursday money earned: I babysat my neighbors kids AND worked from home.

Friday money spent: kids to MMO, bought a baby shower gift.

Friday money earned: worked at my day job til 1 PM and then babysat.

Saturday money spent: my fantastic babysitter C has the kids for the day and I dropped $4 at McDonald’s for breakfast. It wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.

Saturday money earned: worked all day with 3 appointments (yay)

You are inspiring me to keep better track of our budget (which isn’t that difficult as we’re super po’). It’s admirable that you put your mind to this and are sticking with it … not many people are good on the actual follow through. Goooooooooooooooooooooooo, cousin-in-law!
