For Jane and Suze

November 16, 2011

It’s been quite a week! I was off on Thursday and I worked from home (yay $$) and went grocery shopping again (spent $70, saved $30 but that put me at $130 for my weekly food budget, boo). But for $5 I bought a small roasting chicken and got two meals out of that bad buy, night one was, well, roasted chicken, and night two it turned into a fantastic batch of my amazing white chicken chili (corn not bean for base) with homemade rolls. Score one for me.

Saturday was the Huntsville half marathon and if you would like some comedy added to your Wednesday afternoon, please look here.

Yes, I’m aware that I am making the worst faces ever and look like I am going to die, which is exactly how I felt. After about 10 miles I started to think “this is ridiculous, why did I sign up for this, and if I fall to the ground clutching my ankle, will someone drive me back?” Next year I request that one of my friends meet me at mile 10 and force me to run, you can even smack me in the ass with a stick, just make me move. I had such a hard time motivating myself, the first six were awesome as I ran with a friend but that last seven when I tried to push myself wore me down. But all is not lost, my nutty friend Emily is going to do another half in April and I’ve committed to running it with her. See? I’m crazy.

After my half I came home and passed out for a few hours and then we did something that we haven’t done in WEEKS, even before the race: we went out to dinner as a family. I know we’re fasting, blah blah yadda yadda, but I had a $5 coupon and damnit I wanted some yeast rolls and protein so we went to Logan’s. And it was FABULOUS.

We’re doing OK on the money fast. It’s downright fantastic to check our account and not see it littered with stupid little transactions from all over town. I work next to a Walgreen’s and it had become a very, very bad habit to wander over there for snacks, a headband or an US magazine when I had downtime at work.

Quick weekly $ recap: groceries $70, shorts $25 (hey they were $55 but I had a $10 coupon + a $25 voucher), Logan’s $35, ughhh pizza $25 on Monday when I had class and needed to pound out a rough draft on Hemingway and that’s it.

Money I didn’t spend: Tuesday we spent $0 plus I worked allllll day when Don was off, so that’s a plus.

Being cheap is exhausting.

Good job! I was beginning to think you had gone on a balls to the wall target-gap-publix shopping spree and broke every rule you set. Thanks for clearing that up! But really, shorts in November??
p.s. Give all munchkins huge smooches from me and I can’t wait to whack you with a stick!!!

    Finally! Let the stalking resume!
Welcome to the dark, cheap, broke-ass-living, po’ side.

    p.s. I can’t see your picture.
p.s.s. You’re doing an awesome job at this money stuff. Simple living feels good though, no? A little?
